Can the eclipse tell us the size of the moon?
I am an educator and my videos should never be used for technical reference. That may apply especially to this one. This video is designed for curious persons, of course. But it might have been created as an educational tool; a lesson plan. This requires two formulas from physics:
distance = rate x time
And
circumference = 2 π r
I think that, with guidance from the teacher, this little exercise is within reach of a 7th grade classroom.
And there is the astronomy side of it. This will add to understanding of the relationship between the sun , the moon and the earth.

The video is a good, even brilliant platform for education. Why do I emphasize that it should not be used for technical reference? Ask the kids!

Organic Chemistry ... first lesson
Переглядів 41Рік тому
This video presents a first introduction to organic chemistry. This is a remake of a much older video on the same subject. This version is much shorter, and I think, much better. If you are a teacher, or even doing home school, get some molecular models for the students. This is perfect for our new type of student: visual, tactile and good for group learning. Kahoot is a wonderful platform for ...

The energetic load put on genetic machinery due to introns is completely crazy. And Introns greatly increase the probability of errors. This video proposes that introns are evidence of intelligent design.

Mozart K381 is a piano duet for four hands on one piano. I played both sides. I recorded the treble part and then, listening to the treble, added the bass. It was a cool project. Against a student standard it is pretty good. This is different version of the same video. I edited it a little differently and think this might be better. It was recorded in 2015. I do not know why it is dated April 2...

That this video is dated is reflected in the title; the label COVID 19 had not been coined in late March 2020. Chemical reactions are not about anions and cations. They ...

    The sun chases the moon. and the days after the eclipse, the moon is to the left of the sun. It becomes visible as a crescent a few days after the eclipse. This is pretty complex and probably not well understood by most people.

    There are two very big assumptions. The first assumption is a little sketchy, but defensible. The second assumption is completely over looked. The theme of this video makes for a good platform for education.

    there are enormous changes in this technology, but I think this video is okay and stands the test of time. He (I) adds a little epilogue that is good. When the video was made, in the infancy of the COVID, there was a sense that the test for the virus was barely within the scope of routine medical technology.

    … I think that the moon moves maybe ten degrees a day. So, two days before the eclipse, it should be 20-40 degrees to the west. It is still cold, but I bundle up and go outside with a pair of binoculars. I carefully focus the binoculars on Mission hospital many hundreds of yards away. I sit in a chair and look and look. No Moon. I will try again early in the morning tomorrow. This is western North Carolina and horizons are a bit hard to come by. We will see, starting with whether I am up and the sky is clear.

    Quick story: I am working a protein laboratory. My job was to purify short peptides (about 3-6 amino acids) And then lyophilize them (What is lyophilization and why is it used? Freeze-drying, also known as lyophilization, is a process in which water in the form of ice under low pressure is removed from a material by sublimation.) The technique involves liquid nitrogen. Basically, freeze the sample down to -80 (or whatever it is) and put the sample in a vacuum. The sample will dry out. But it involves this weird liquid nitrogen. It bubbles and fumes and looks like ginger ale. Very weird stuff. My technical lead is a post-doc and smarter than me. I say "boy, this is weird stuff" referring to the liquid nitrogen. Steve, the post-doc says, "No it is about the most normal material in the universe; not reactive with perfectly normal characteristics. It you want something weird, look at water. Now that is totally weird"

    I am not disappointed that this video receives few viewers. I am moving toward the clarinet. It is easier to play. I might be able to play it better with less work. I have a rather good Buffet clarinet and am at the stage where I am wondering if my clarinet is messed up, am I an idiot, or, Is the problem with my clarinet reeds. Just after this video was made, I poured myself into the second movement of the Pathetique. I have not touched it much since. Sticking mostly to Mozart.
